Professional skills

Throughout my bachelor I have been good at planning. This usually resulted in me standing up as the leader of a group. In previous projects I was always the one that organized everything for the group and kept everyone focused. I do not mind to follow others, but it usually naturally happened like this. In my project 3 research, this was also because I was the only Dutch group member. I have learned that other cultures go about planning different that Dutch people. Dutch people are usually very straightforward and always looking to get things done fast and efficient. I learned to respect the other approaches as well. I think I’m good at teamwork and can communicate well within a group.

During the last project, which was individual, I’ve learned to communicate with different stakeholders. Firstly with experts, I learned to asked for help when I needed it. I learned how to ask the right questions. Furthermore I learned how to communicate my vision for the sports buddy to an expert from a different discipline, so he could assist me in the right way. When doing user research I learned how to communicate my ideas clearly with the user, in addition to this I also learned how to treat these users following the code of conduct from the TU/e. I made sure that the user was always well informed and signed informed consents.

In this semester I used my good planning skills to keep my work and time organized. During the project I had to adapt the planning multiple times in order to mitigate the consequences of time constraints and difficulties during development of my prototype. I learned what works for me. I need to write everything down and work structured, especially in times of stress, so I can cope better.

I based my design of the sports buddy on previously done research. From these researches I gained inspiration and knowledge to determine the direction of my project. In my report, I also mentioned these researches and how it influenced the design.
