User & Society

The skills I gained during the courses described in Past, I implemented in my final bachelor project. The design challenge for the user fits my vision. The project focused on the individual woman, and how I could design something that would be both useful for the short and the long term. Short term regarding being motivated for a workout and long term because more physical activity could prevent physical and mental health problems.

A major focus of my project lay on user research. I had described in my personal development plan that I wanted to think through my user research more this semester. I think I achieved this goal. For every user research I wrote a precise user research protocol and asked for help from experts from my project squad, in order to get the best user tests possible. I do see a missed opportunity when it comes to a longitudinal user test. Due to the technical limitations of my prototype, I could only test it in a controlled environment. In order to see if the product really has the effect I have envisioned, more research in a real life context needs to be done.

I have learned that the nuance of a question is very important when designing an interview. You’ll get very different answers when you change for example only one word in a question. Furthermore, I learned how to set up a qualitative user research that is as unbiased as possible and gets the most true answers from the participants.
